Energy Technology its Development
Energy in terms of Physics means ability to accomplish work. In modern technological world, energy sector holds a lion's share in the economy of every country. As a matter of fact, energy sector is also considered by analysts as one of the primary driving forces in the economies.
In other words, any change in energy sector like prices, technologies and policies would have a direct and significant impact on other sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, industries, mining, transportation and indirect influence on fields like telecommunications and service sectors. Types of Energy Sources: Fossil Fuels : Formed by the decomposition of organic matter in the absence of oxygen under specific conditions in the deeper layers of earth, fossils are extremely rich in carbon and mostly have high calorific value. Disadvantages : Formed by the decomposition of organic matter in the absence of oxygen under specific conditions in the deeper layers of earth, fossils are extremely rich in carbon and mostly have high calorific value. Burning fossils for converting energy into useful forms have resulted in serious ecological impacts. The average increase in global temperature has neared 10 C within the past 3 decades. This alarming scenario is termed as 'GLOBAL WARMING' and is an issue which threatens the very existence of mankind! CARBON FOOTPRINT which is the concept of calculating carbon gas emissions into the atmosphere by human activities after considering absorption of carbon through natural means. Biotech has become a boon to the medical field. Breaking the barriers of human limits; diseases and disorders find appropriate cure to a great extent. Energy Technology its Development Energy news and research papers have suggested alternative energy sources which are renewable and ecologically friendly. Technology of economically harnessing these 'clean energy' sources is considered 'Green Energy Technology'. Solar Energy Solar Energy Of the Green Energy sources, solar energy is found to be one of the most reliable and abundant. Solar energy is harnessed with various technologies like photovoltaic, thermal, chemical and concentration methods. There is lot of technological development in storage of solar energy too. Applications include heating, cooking, production of electricity using photovoltaic solar panels, natural lighting, ventilation, solar powered vehicles and industrial applications. Tidal and Geothermal Energy Tidal and Geothermal Energy as a third of earth is covered by oceans, tides are a good source of kinetic energy and are directly used in electricity production. Geothermal Energy refers to the heat energy of the earth's interior which often is experienced on the surface in the form of 'Hot Springs'. This energy can be used to produce steam and hence electricity. Wind Energy Wind Energy can be another good source for producing electricity using wind turbines. To economically harness, only a certain parts of the world are suitable where winds are strong, relatively continuous and throughout the year. Nuclear Energy latest modern technological development in the field of nuclear energy has made this a major alternative to fossils. Energy news and research suggest that nuclear by-products and waste are most dangerous and most difficult to be disposed. There are also possibilities of nuclear accidents and reactors mishaps which result in serious catastrophes. But the fact that nuclear energy is one of the most reliable and economical energy sources in the coming future can't be ignored. Disadvantages: Wind, Tidal and Geothermal energy are location specific. They are not a common phenomenon throughout the earth surface and encounter other problems like storage and huge distance involved in transportation. Featured Articles
