Latest Modern Mobile Technology
Even to this day, mobile phones are extensively used for a telephone call which is the primary feature of this magical gadget. But it would be wrong to say that it is used only for calls. With technological breakthrough in the communication segment and mobile industry, modern day mobiles try to incorporate almost any and every feature possible.
Classification of Mobile Technology:
According to the International Mobile Communication (IMT) protocols, mobile phones and services are clearly distinguished and categorized into first, second, third and fourth generations. Mobiles need to fulfill certain standards to be categorized into one of the above.
The limited functionalities of early era (first generation) mobiles included voice-only calling, text messaging and very few utilities like date and time display and alarm alerts.
With the passage of time, other electronic gadgets which are meant for distinct purposes were integrated with the mobile platform. For instance, music and video players, cameras with image and video capture capabilities, multimedia messaging service (MMS), Bluetooth connectivity, GPRS tools and endless utilities like stopwatch, reminders, notes and so on were integrated with mobile phones. In popular terms, this is the second generation or 2G mobile phones.
Within a very short span of time, the 3G and 4G mobile families have become popular. These phones are designed with as much functionalities as possible and can actually replace a laptop. Just like a computer, they are powered by processors, main boards, operating systems and powerful batteries to cater to the enormous tasks they are expected of.

These mobiles are aptly called 'Smartphones'. GPS based mobile apps are basically used to provide location based information to the mobile. Mobile apps like Google Earth can furnish maps of the geographical locations with precise satellite based images. Mobiles may have GPS navigation facilities which can show directions, distance and suggestions regarding the route. There are other apps which provide quick and valuable information like nearest restaurants, cinema halls, shopping malls and you can even know cab services in the vicinity. With pre loaded information, it can display the menu of a restaurant too! There are other revolutionary applications like Trapster Mobile Services and iNap which can be of great help at times. Trapster mobile services are free of cost and provide alerts regarding the positions of Police interceptors, cameras and live police presence. iNap and similar apps give users uninterrupted information about the locations while travelling and can also alert the users when the destination is reached.
